Both Koh Samui & Koh Tao (a nearby island) provide excellent bases for diving the waters around Koh Tao which support the best coral and fish life in the Gulf of Thailand. Overnight and day trips are possible from Samui. You will find professional dive shops on both these islands and on Koh Phangan. An internationally recognised and expertly supervised Basic Open Water accreditation as a scuba diver makes one of the best possible souvenirs of your trip. Experienced divers may wish to do a speciality course such as Underwater Photography or Search and Recovery. Or if you simply want to snorkel among the rich coral and other marine life, there are plenty of shallow water sites sufficiently beautiful to hold you spell bound long past the time you should be out of the sun and nursing a cold drink on shore.
